Nokia N82 v Sony Ericsson K850i

Below are a few sample pics, taken on the Nokia N82 and the Sony Ericsson K850i. Both phones have a 5.0 megapixel camera, with auto focus, and a Xenon flash. The Nokia Also has a Carl Zeiss Lens. Click on the images to see them in full size. Which do you prefer?

This picture was taken on macro mode:
Nokia N82

SE K850i

The next two pictures are taken on standard setting:
Nokia N82

SE K850i

Nokia N82

SE K850i

I think the results are clear enough. Chalk another one up for the Nokia N82.

Edit: After reading through the comments it seems the EXIF data isn't showing for these pictures, and also the picture size isn't what would be expected from a 5.0 megapixel camera. So, I've uploaded the images to Flickr, where all EXIF data is available and image properties show properly.

Click here to access the Flickr set.

ya the SE looks very washed out , N82 is clearly the winner in these few pics

How about N73 VS N82 ?

Jay3GSM said...

I think that would be slight mis-match, but I will take some pics hopefully tomorrow and put them up for comparison

In your macro shot, is it your intention to show that the K850i cannot focus as close? The focus point is on the stem a bit further down the plant in the K850 photo. Is the Coke can with/without flash on K850/N82? I've no axe to grind, I am just curious. Personally I'd be looking for a camera that shines for macro as well as ordinary snap use. Even on the cup, it looks as though the SE has focussed on the back of the cup rather than the front.

The surface reflection in the picture with the can taken by N82 is showing the backside of any mobile phone BUT this is definitely NOT the backside of the N82!

Faye: The macro shot was just to see which phone performed better. I just set up a 'point n shoot' style comparison test. I tried with all pictures I took, as well as these three I posted, to ensure I used each phone on comparable settings for each image taken. There's no point in comparing when the situation is not as even as possible. I was disappointed with the overall quality of the K850i, bearing in mind I am a fan of SE cameraphones generally, for example the W810i is one of the best 2.0 megapixel cameras on any phone. The coke can shot for both phones flash was set to automatic, and didn't go off on either phone.

Anonymous: Are you seriously suggesting I would label a shot as taken by the N82 when it wasn't? There would be no point. The shot of the coke can was definitely taken by an N82.

Thnx 4 the compare

Why is the complete Exif data missing from all the pictures and why is it only showing partial. I doubt if these are actually taken by N82 or K850i. If you save these images especially the one's supossedly taken by K850i the file name pops us a DSC. Another thing if you check the exif data the images are 1600 x 1200 pixels. When you take a picture with 5 megapixel camera, it always comes as 2592 X 1944 pixels.

Next time you upload a picture, make sure you put the complete exif data.

I'm not sure what happened when I uploaded the pictures, why the Exif data isn't shown. I've uploaded the pictures to Flickr, they are in a set:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/jay3gsm/sets/72157603262295512/

You can clearly see all Exif data and relevant information there.

Anonymous said...

LOL, Do you have a K-Series Blog?
I prefer the N82 and the speed that it takes between shots is far faster than the K850i.

U guys have problem with se k850i b'coz u don't know to do the settings
which se provides, there4 never say that nokia n82 is better than se k850i, & Nokia F**KS

@faye
the diet coke can is definitely without flash! or else one could easily make out.. flash/light reflection aint there..
and it seems like this guy is being honest and helping everyone get the true "picture"...
my friend in U.K told me not to go for 850.. not only cuz of the camera but the touchpad as well..
i think what makes the n82 stand out is the flash.. the other phones do have carl zeiss lense but the night images suck..
sony has a good flash and does show the real pic..
n82 on the other hand, cuz of carl zeiss shows extra real image as it adds on to the colou and enriches the overall image quality..
thats all..
a year back, i would definitely take k790i over n73.. thats cuz of the xenon flash.. although the day pic of n73 were better, i wudnt have gone for it simply cuz the night pics sucked.. and when a pic taken in a light, u cud see those horizontal lines runnin down the screen(dont know the technical name).. disturbance/whatever..
i did buy the 790i which soon fell out of the train.. but anyway, now 850 vs 82 is a good battle.. only thing bothers me about 82 is the normal look and the keypad..
thats all

Dude Sony ericsson always rocks and NOKIA sucks..did you use debrand cam driver i am sure you didnt 1st use camdriver for k850 then you will see NOKIA is nothing just bullshit nokia just fuks not rocks :DDD use the cam driver then compare on post like this kinda amature pics use 1st cam driver for k850 then compare...u dickhead

Jay3GSM said...

Dickhead or not, the pictures talk for themselves, and the first software version of the N82 is steps ahead of the first software version K850i.

You either accept the evidence available, or bury your head in the sand and keep telling yourself the K850i is a better phone. It doesn't matter to me.

Looks nice and small but it seems to be less attractive then I hoped. Maybe its just the camera or the look of white, making it blacker then it looks. Personally now I'm thinking of getting a N98 8GB or waiting for a N96.

The wait has finally ended. Sony Ericsson has announced that the highly anticipated K850i Cyber-shot phone is available in all Asia-Pacific markets at a recommended retail price of about $617 (without plan).

We've just received our commercial review unit and a full review of the 5-megapixel camera phone will be coming up early next week. For now, you can check out our initial stuff here:

ROFL.

This is seriously N-biased post, as expected from the nature of the blog.

Now, here is more neutral, or more SE biased review (the writer of this review seems a lot more experienced in making comparisons, so people who want to actually compare and not flame one phone, read this link instead of making your decision based on this biased post).

Jay3GSM said...

Whilst I accept there is an element of bias in this blog, that doesn't run to being blinded by the obvious. If an NSeries handset doesn't live up to the standard expected, I would say so. However in comparisons, the K850 never stood a chance, the N82 leaves it standing in all areas.

Take a look here, I did a comparison post when I worked at mobiles.co.uk, which you can see on the blog here You will see the N82 again wiped the floor with the inferior K850.

sony ericsson is best phone .i can,t believe this comparisson

doğan said...

what the fuck was that. i dont believe this comparation as you see in flower picture n82 focused on the flower but with k850 focused on back look careful n82 never beat k850. one years ago n73 vs k790 shootout n73 has unreal colors but k790 weak colors but is real i mean nokia never beat SE

Jay3GSM said...

I find it surprising that so many months after this posting, people are STILL complaining! I think over the last months the initial findings have been vindicated, where the K850i was a buggy piece of useless rubbish with an awful camera the N82 has turned out to be a top selling product.

Asd1709 said...

I see the pictures and I think that the N82 are better than the K850i and now I have both phones with me and I can tell you that the N82 is really better in daylight pictures and the best one in the dark, the flash of the N82 is a real xenon flash not like the SE

Tanya West said...

I coudln't believe this... Something is wrong with the images. Take a look at the first pic the leaves, Why are the background leaves for k850i Sony Ericsson Mobile Phone pic are clear you can still see the dew on the leaf. While on the N82 Nokia Mobile Phone it's blurded. Maybe this photos were manipulated.
